Multiculturalism is important in education and the classroom because having an understanding of the differences between people can help us communicate better. Also, by understanding where we may come from on different stances may help us get along better rather than fighting about our differences and not agreeing 100% on certain issues. It is important to not only think about different cultures in education but also notice things that may not be tied along with the word, "multiculturalism", such as gender, race, and disabilities. It is important to have an open mind when discussing these difficult subjects. When trying to understand multiculturalism, you need to not only think about your perceptions on how you feel about different issues, but it is important to think about where the person on the other end of the spectrum may be coming from. Multiculturalism is extremely important in education and if you don't understand some important implications that go along with it, your first week in the future classroom may be very difficult for you.
